1 John 1:5:
This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light and in him there is no darkness at all.
1 John 4:8:
Whoever does not love does not know God, for God is love.
The author of John appears not to have been aware of Isaiah 45:5-7:
5 I am the Lord, and there is none else, there is no God beside me: I girded thee, though thou hast not known me: 6 That they may know from the rising of the sun, and from the west, that there is none beside me. I am the Lord, and there is none else. 7 I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the Lord do all these things. (KJV)
One of the most fundamental differences between Judaism and Christianity is that Judaism holds God to be the author of all events, good or bad. God’s transcendence of good and evil, darkness and light, is also suggested by Psalm 139:11-12:
If I say, ‘Surely the darkness shall cover me, and the light around me become night,’ even the darkness is not dark to you; the night is as bright as the day, for darkness is as light to you.
A pertinent discussion is in progress at Messiah Truth: “The Yetzer Hara (Evil Inclination) and Satans (Adversaries to man) are GOOD.”
