Biting the bullet

Monday, August 3, 2020

At this point, I have titles chosen for prospective blog posts for the next seven Saturdays.  That would take us up to and including October 24.

I have decided to go ahead and start writing those posts, even though I have strong misgivings about them.  They all deal, one way or another, with race or racism, which are not fun topics; and my whole attitude toward the subject is currently going through a major change.  Maybe I can find a posture from which to write them, which will be more uplifting than the one I had at the beginning.  Bottom line: I’m currently wanting to practice what I preach, and seek to be happy, and do things that will make me happy.  Talking about race, in general, does not do that.

So it may well be that these posts will mark the end of my thinking about race.

I have no reason to believe that racism will ever go away.  The best I think anyone can do — and if I’ve learned anything from almost a decade of homelessness, it’s this:

Do the best you can with what you’ve got in the situation you’re in

— and no one will look down on you.  If you do that, all kinds of people will show up to help you.  If you don’t, no one will.
