Fashionable outrage.
Not since Nick Sandmann have I seen the mainstream media so eager to crucify anyone.
From Wikipedia:
On March 16, 2021, a series of mass shootings occurred at three spas or massage parlors in the metropolitan area of Atlanta, Georgia, United States. Eight people were killed, six of whom were Asian women, and one other person was wounded. A suspect, 21-year-old Robert Aaron Long, was taken into custody later that day.
According to police, Long said he was motivated by a sexual addiction that was at odds with his religious beliefs. He had previously spent time in an evangelical treatment clinic for sex addiction. After the shootings, Long was charged with four counts of murder by the Atlanta Police Department (APD), and four counts of murder and one count of aggravated assault by the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office.
Although Long has not been charged with a hate crime, many commentators have characterized the shootings as a hate crime, noting the backdrop of rising anti-Asian sentiment in the United States during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The actual backdrop is not “rising anti-Asian sentiment … during the COVID-19 pandemic,” which began in January 2020, but instead a rash of unprovoked attacks on Asian Americans that began in January 2021.
Typical media responses have insisted that the killer’s motives were all about race, and not at all about his own sexual hangups:

In other words, we can’t hate him enough for just killing eight people. No, we have to hate him for being racist — whether he is, or not.
He told police he killed those people over his frustration with his “sex addiction.”
He had been in residential treatment for “sex addiction.”
He had just been evicted from his parents’ home because of “sex addiction.”
He told police he had patronized two of the three businesses in question, seeking sex.
Whether or not the term “sex addiction” is used in the DSM; he, his parents, and those who operate the treatment center where he stayed, are using that term to refer to something. It is clear he has a serious problem with sex.
At his age, I, too, had serious problems with sex.

Evangelical Christianity bills itself as the solution to all the world’s problems. The preachers at the homeless shelter where I used to stay “basically promised us that once you’re born again, you’ll never face difficulty ever again in life.”
In my time of need, however, it had nothing to offer.
And it’s clear it’s had nothing to offer this young man, either.
But:
Under political correctness, racism is the go-to accusation.
