“Every thought is a prayer.” To the end of making good use of the four hours or so every day we’re compelled to be idle at the shelter; and of speeding the day when I’ll find my own place; I’ve taken to daydreaming intentionally about things I’d like to do in my own place. Some of those, I mean to share here, as doing so involves giving more time to those dreams. Many involve cooking foods I like that we never get at the shelter. Related: “What a homeless man dreams of.“
It could have been worse.
Wanting to confirm the right ratios of ingredients, I searched around for some time among recipes — inconsistent one from another, and some downright complicated, and as current posts indicate I don’t like complication — before I stumbled on the Wikipedia article, which sets it forth right away. Some may find that article itself of interest: Shortbread.
As I’ve said before, “Anyone can easily make at home, world-class shortbread equal to the best of the best. I’ve done it many times.” One part sugar, two parts butter, three parts flour. “Knead with a fork until it becomes flaky. Press into a pan and bake.”
Specifically, I’d recommend pressing into a 9×9″ baking pan, and baking at 350° for 25 minutes.
Gees, I copied almost all of that from a previous post. It’s all good.
And particularly with this stuff, it is ALL good.
