The counterfeit Christian

Although I know that, at one time, I was one myself, I’ve never understood the deal with hypocrisy.

Act all holy and pious sometimes for show (As if anyone cares?), and be a total scumbag other times.

I don’t get it.  We do have guys like that at the shelter, though.

At the convenience store just now where I was buying smokes (Sin! Sin! And Pastor is really on me to stop this self-destructive pattern, especially in light of my current financial situation.), they had a couple bills taped to the cashier’s window, a $20 and a $5, with these brown marks on them indicating that the testing pen had found them to be counterfeit.

Wouldn’t know it by looking at them.

Recalled this story.

About 18 months ago, one night this guy brought in two fake $50s some store had accidentally given him in change.  He was showing them around.  This other guy became all energetic, wanting to buy them from him for $5, meaning to use them on the Block.  Took me a while to figure that out.

This must have been right after supper.  Chapel followed.  It was the first Sunday of the month, as the group that came was the Wailing Women, whom we commonly refer to as “the Voodoo Ladies” because of their, um, distinctive worship style.

Now the energetic guy was all energetic in a different way.  He sang.  He shouted.  He testified.  He asked for (and got) permission to do a duet with the pretty, dark-skinned one with the big boobs.

Maybe he was trying to get a date.

Meanwhile, I had figured out what he meant to do with the $50s.

He meant to cheat a whore.

Nothing more to say.
